McLains Challenge You to Give to the OGH Healthcare Foundation

February 5, 2020 - When Ochiltree General Hospital was established in 1965, local families stepped forward to sponsor the furnishings in patient rooms as a way to give back to their local community and help pave the way for a new era of rural healthcare right here at home. Though nearly 55 years have passed since that initial gift, the impact of those original donors is still being felt here at your hometown hospital.

“Several years ago, we visited a friend of ours at Ochiltree General and when we left we noticed a set of familiar names on a plaque attached to the door of their hospital room. It dawned on us that my husband’s grandparents, Sam and Lina McLain, had furnished that room when the hospital was first built,” says Capital Campaign project donor Janice McLain. “When we walked down the hall, we noticed another set of names – Harvey and Almeda Urban – who were their neighbors. We realized all of these people who were much loved members of our community had come together to make this hospital possible.”

The McLains decided then that they wanted to be a part of bettering our community, but recently announced they would like to challenge Perryton and surrounding communities by matching gifts made to the OGH Healthcare Foundation before May 1, 2020, up to a total of $100,000.00.

“This county has been very good to us and we would like to pay a little forward,” says Randy McLain. “There was another local organization which was having trouble funding the final piece of a building project. We decided that we would like to match the donations and people in this community stepped up to donate all while joking with us that they would be costing us – their friends – some money.”

The McLains feel donations from $1.00 to $1,000,000.00 make a lasting impact of our local hospital. To place a challenge donation before May 1, 2020, please contact Lynsey at 806-648-7402, email lmcanally@oghtx.com or give online via www.ochiltreehospital.com/oghfoundation and specify that the gift is a challenge response to Randy and Janice McLain.

The McLains would also like to announce that any gift they give as a match to their challenge will be made in honor of longtime Ochiltree County physician Dr. Claude W. Betty who was a vital member of the Ochiltree General medical staff for over 50 years.
