Ochiltree General Hospital COVID-19 Elective Surgery Update

November 5, 2020 – As the State of Texas continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is imperative that our state’s hospitals have the capacity to serve the needs of Texans. In order to ensure this, Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-31 on September 17, 2020, requiring that every hospital located in an area with high COVID-19 hospitalizations postpone all elective surgeries until further notice, however urgent and emergent cases may be performed.

Based on this information, as of October 26, 2020, all licensed hospitals located in Trauma Service Area A are required to postpone elective surgeries as set forth in Executive Order GA-31. Trauma Service Area A includes the following counties: Armstrong, Briscoe, Carson, Childress, Collingsworth, Dallam, Deaf Smith, Donley, Gray, Hall, Hansford, Hartley, Hemphill, Hutchinson, Lipscomb, Moore, Ochiltree, Oldham, Parmer, Potter, Randall, Roberts, Sherman, Swisher, and Wheeler.

Ochiltree General is still very aware of the threat to our community presented by COVID-19 and has instituted policies to protect our patients as well as staff members.

Ochiltree General has implemented measures to keep ALL patients safe. When patients enter Ochiltree General, they are triaged based on their symptoms so that anyone exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 does not commingle with those individuals who are visiting for outpatient procedures. In addition, staff members are having their temperature taken upon entering the hospital, wearing masks throughout the facility as well as practicing social distancing as much as possible in a medical environment.

As always, your local hospital continues to actively monitor all updates from the Texas Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control in regard to COVID-19. Currently, there have been 117 reported positive cases of COVID-19 in Ochiltree County in the last 14 days.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Infection Control Officer, ACNO Jyme Kinnard, at jlkinnard@oghtx.com, Chief Nursing Officer Kelly Judice, RN, at kjudice@oghtx.com or call the hospital main line at 806-435-3606.
