Hospice Program Honored During November
Ochiltree General Hospital joins nationwide observance of important healthcare service.
Throughout the month of November, Ochiltree General Hospital (OGH) is honoring the team in its Hospice department for the incredible work they provide. The local healthcare provider is joining a nationwide campaign that highlights the compassionate care the local organization adds to the last days of a patient’s life.
“It’s not easy to have a family member or loved one in a hospice program, but it’s comforting to know everything is being done for the patient and family to make the last days of a person’s life easier for easier for everyone involved,” explains Robert Pascasio, CEO of OGH. “Hospice is not always available in small and rural communities, so we’re fortunate to live in an area where access to this critical service is within close reach.”
Hospice Month is celebrated each November, honoring the millions of nurses, home care aides, therapists, and social workers who have a comforting impact for the patients and families they serve.
OGH Hospice offers personalized healthcare services and focuses on the unique needs of patients of any age who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness and require consistent care throughout the remainder of their natural life. Primary funding generally comes from Medicare and private insurance.
According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, it is estimated that up to 1.6 million patients across the U.S. take advantage of hospice care annually.
“It takes compassion and commitment for someone to work in this field, and I believe our team of hospice workers and volunteers exemplify those traits,” Pascasio says. “They’re great at what they do.”
Since the Perryton organization was founded more than 50 years ago, OGH Hospice has served patients and their families during a difficult stage in life. As a medically directed program, the department has developed a true team approach to helping the terminally ill patients and their families.
